Here is an interesting story of a multi-category CFI. Leo Fitzgerald has been coming up every two years to renew his CFI with the basic CFI checkride option.
It should be known that Leo was my first CFI checkride in a weight-shift control trike about 20 years ago when he started flight training. Since then, we went from an airplane to a gyro.
Leo flew that gyro up from Phoenix, Arizona, did the CFI checkride renewal early the next morning, and flew the gyro back to Phoenix the same day after his checkride.
Leo is an air animal. He took the time after his checkride to give Michaela Flint CFI an intro lesson in the gyro.
Turns out Leo did Michaela’s weight shift control CFI add-on when Michaela went to trike. Leo is one of the most versatile sport CFIs out there. He did my weight-shift control Sea add-on several years back. We ended up doing his CFI renewal in the airplane so we could fit him into our schedule. It should be known that Leo is one of the most talented multi-category flight instructors out there, and it is an honor to work with him in so many situations.
